Gentelischi’, with another word, too faint to be read; on the mount an inscription in pencil giving an account of the life of Orazio Gentileschi in Dutch\r\nRed chalk\t\r\n11 ¾ x 8 5/8 (299 x 219)\t\t\t\t\t\tDyce 171\r\n\nPROVEANCE J. Pz. Zoomer (Lugt 1511); Dyce Bequest 1869\r\n\nLITERATURE <i>Dyce Catalogue</i> no. 171 (as by Orazio Gentileschi)\r\n\r\nThe attribution to Orazio Gentileschi has been kept till lately, though the old inscription, on which the attribution is presumably based, gives the artist’s initial as A, evidently referring to Artemisis rather than Orazio. It seems unlikely tha the drawing is by wither artist.
