Their design reflects the practical austerity displayed in war-time fashion. The 10cm heel however, far exceeded the wartime restriction of 2.5cm for heels in the United States and 5cm in Britain.\r\n\r\nThis pair of platform heels belonged to London socialite Cecile Tonge Stuart, who earned her nickname 'Bat' with her busy night life. Aside from her impeccable style, Stuart was also known for being well travelled and a licensed aviator.","physicalDescription":"Grey leather platform shoes with 10cm heel, bow tie design in the front, pale blue lining, and buckled closure.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Ansonia de Luxe","id":"A27480"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"leather","id":"AAT11845"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Leather","categories":[{"text":"Accessories","id":"THES48998"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Footwear","id":"THES48951"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2015HR5996"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES326264"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES326264"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}],[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"USA","id":"x29333"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1940","earliest":"1935-01-01","latest":"1944-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Kim P Sands in memory of Cecile 'Bat' Stuart","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"17","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"10","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'AF / Ansonia De Luxe / New York / U.S. PAT-Registered Office'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"F, grey leather platform, Ansonia de Luxe, USA, ca. 1940.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.84:2-2009","T.84:1-2009"],"accessionNumberNum":"84","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":2009,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Shoe [1]","Shoe [2]"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-10-05","recordCreationDate":"2009-07-09","availableToBook":true}}
