She wore this dress and other Cresta designs to promote her husband’s employer. \r\n\r\nCresta Silks, a textile manufacturer in Hertforshire, was founded in 1929 by Tom Heron (1890-1983). It specialised in the production of innovative block-printed silk dress fabrics designed by leading British painters such as Paul Nash and Cedric Morris. While the Museum's collection includes several examples of Cresta's designs, they are mainly artist-designed silks from the 1930s and 1940s; this is a rare example in the V&A's collection of a post-war Cresta textile made into a garment.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Cresta Silks Ltd","id":"A14550"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk (textile)","id":"AAT243428"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Printed silk","categories":[{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2012FT9917","2012FT9916","2012FT9918"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307556"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307556"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307556"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Dress","id":""}],[{"text":"Belt","id":""}],[{"text":"Scarf","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1970","earliest":"1965-01-01","latest":"1974-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Laraine Feldman","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"F, red and white printed silk dress with belt and matching scarf, Cresta Silks Ltd., Britain, ca. 1970","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"Attribution note: made for the wife of Cresta production manager","productionType":{"text":"Unique","id":"THES48864"},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.73:1-2009","T.73:2-2009","T.73:3-2009"],"accessionNumberNum":"73","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":2009,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Dress","Belt","Scarf"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-03-19","recordCreationDate":"2009-07-06","availableToBook":true}}
