This poster is a good example of the modern Swiss graphic design school, which emerged in the 1920s. \r\n\r\nThe design of the poster reflects the rational Constructivist style of 1920s Bauhaus. The composition embodies an enlightened relationship between industry and graphic design. The three colours – white, black and red – are used in a formalised geometric manner, with text and the angular image coming together to create a striking Modernist image.","physicalDescription":"A poster showing a white wardrobe on black background with white text","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Mumenthaler, Ernst","id":"A14873"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour lithograph on paper","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"}],"styles":[{"text":"Modernism","id":"AAT21474"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AB5702"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"MM","shelf":"2","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"poster","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Switzerland","id":"x29199"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1929","earliest":"1929-01-01","latest":"1929-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased through the Julie and Robert Breckman Print Fund","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"127","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"90","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'gewerbermuseum basel / ausstellung / typenmöbel...'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"'Typenmöbel', poster by Ernst Mumenthaler, Swiss, 1929","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"Designed for an exhibition at the Gewerbermuseum Basel, June to July 1929.","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"wardrobes (case furniture)","id":"AAT39237"},{"text":"exhibition","id":"AAT54766"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.267-2005"],"accessionNumberNum":"267","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2005,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-08","recordCreationDate":"2005-06-16","availableToBook":false}}
