The German painter and printmaker Albrecht Dürer transformed the narrative and expressive potential of printmaking. His 'Large Passion' series is  a vivid and animated rendering of the gospel story. \r\n\r\nThis scene shows Christ being flogged and mocked after his arrest. Dürer emphasises the noise and brutality of the scene. The soldiers tear Christ’s hair and use all their strength to make whips and bindings.
