Since 1985 they have commemorated their major sponsorships and exhibition openings by inviting artists to create limited edition labels, in order to identify their brand image with the perceived attributes of contemporary art - cool, original, young, irreverent, controversial and talked-about. \r\n\r\nEach label offers us a miniature ‘snapshot’ of the artist’s characteristic style and subject. Tim Head's label with its life-size images of plastic coffee-stirrers relates to his interest in the ephemeral and disposable accessories of consumerism - bar-codes, packaging, credit cards, corporate logos, material from fast-food restaurants and takeaways, etc. - which he had been collecting since the late 1970s.
