The term Cizhou encapsulates a range of wares made in several regions of northern China, often consisting of a stoneware body decorated with a bold design.\r\n\r\nThe stoneware body of this plate has been glazed in a modified version of the <i>sancai</i> three-colour scheme of the Tang dynasty, known as Song <i>sancai</i>. The outlines of this lively design have been carved into the body to avoid the spread of the glazes during firing. The effect is a crisp and bold design in striking colours.","physicalDescription":"Cizhou ware dish with incised design and coloured glaze","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"stoneware","id":"x30197"}],"techniques":[{"text":"incised","id":"AAT53847"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware, incised and glazed","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[{"text":"Jin","id":"x35674"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2010CT5347","2008BR9790","2006AG6372"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137 (VA)","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"B","shelf":"4","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Dish","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"China","id":"x29398"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1150-1234","earliest":"1150-01-01","latest":"1234-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased with Art Fund support, the Vallentin Bequest, Sir Percival David and the Universities China Committee","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"19","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Eumorfopoulos collection.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Dish, incised stoneware with colour glazes, Cizhou ware, China, Jin dynasty, 1150-1234","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Kerr, Rose.
