He was a natural history artist.","physicalDescription":"Watercolour drawing on paper by Alfred Thomas Elwes.  Features a boy standing in front of an easel holding a canvas.  He paints a dog which poses on top of a chest.  A cat, palette and brushes in the foreground.  The illustration is movable: a hole has been cut out of the canvas painting and the head of the dog on the chest.
