The slide carrier, fixed to the front and supported by two gold-painted rods, has a spring mechanism for holding the slides in place. There is a double-condenser lense and the brass cylinder with the projecting lens has a rack and pinion device on top for focusing. There is a hinged half door at the back and ventilation slits down each side and around the circular collar of the top opening. \n\nThe paraffin lamp which slides inside has a square reservoir at the base and a double wick set at an angle of 45° to concentrate the light. A square reflector panel with a green glass sight hole slides into the rear of the lamp. A tall cylindrical chimney fits into the top of the lamp through the opening in the top of the body. \n\nIt is contained in a wooden box covered with grey paper - much damaged and with some worm holes. The lid bears the remains of labels. \n\n1-12. 12 long transfer-printed slides with glass backing and bound with green paper. Various landscape, childhood and comic scenes. They are numbered 37-48. \n\n13-17. Four mechanical slides in black metal frames.\n13. Chromotrope - rack and pinion movement.\n14. Windmill scene - rack and pinion.\n15. Soap bubble blowing - rack and pinion.\n16. Gymnast in circus - rack and pinion. \n17. The first kiss - slipping slide. The lips and eyes are painted on to a piece of glass bound with green paper, which slides in and out of a metal frame.
