They place the specimens directly onto the scanner. Light passes through the transparent leaves and petals of the plants to reveal a luminous inner structure. These cameraless images are reminiscent of the photograms of early photographers such as William Henry Fox Talbot and Anna Atkins, made by simply placing objects between light-sensitive paper or film and a light source. \r\n\r\nThe Royal Horticultural Society commissioned the Barans in 2004 to make these botanical images to be featured on postage stamps in celebration of the society’s bicentenary.","physicalDescription":"Image of dianthus chinensis ŒCorona Cherry Magic¹.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Baran, Barbara","id":"C4394"},"association":{"text":"photographer","id":"x43821"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Baran, Zafer","id":"C4395"},"association":{"text":"photographer","id":"x43821"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Barbara and Zafer Baran","id":"AUTH388379"},"association":{"text":"photographers","id":"AAT25687"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"archival pigment print","categories":[{"text":"Photographs","id":"THES48910"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLF","id":"THES49656"},"free":"","case":"X","shelf":"1013","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"photograph","id":"AAT46300"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Richmond upon Thames","id":"x29496"},"association":{"text":"photographed","id":"x30151"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2003","earliest":"2003-01-01","latest":"2003-12-31"},"association":{"text":"photographed","id":"x30151"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the photographers","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"48.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"32.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"31.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"image","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"31.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"image","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Marked 'BZB #135/03' on bottom right-hand corner and 'A/P' on bottom left.","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"The Royal Horticultural Society commissioned the Barans to make these botanical images to be featured on postage stamps in celebration of the Society's bicentenary (1804-2004).","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"'Dianthus # 135, 2003', from the series 'The Flower Cabinet', photograph by Barbara and Zafer Baran","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Baran, Barbara and Baran, Zafer. <u>The Flower Cabinet</u>.
