Charmeton was a painter, but is better known for his ornament designs for panels, vases, corners and ceilings, in the style of Louis XIV.\r\n\r\nThis mask design is suitable for woodcarving, silver, ironwork and other materials. Baroque style, popular in Europe from the 17th to the mid 18th century, was characterised by dramatic, ornate and curving forms, often inspired by nature. Prints like these were produced as examples for artisans and craftsmen to copy from, and they were important in spreading the influence of decorative styles.","physicalDescription":"Plate 6.
