Fischer von Erlach was an important figure in Austrian architecture. He designed many of the Baroque masterpieces built in Vienna. In this print, the two vases are presented in a particular visual context. While the pyramid, palm trees and obelisks in the background suggest that the vases are genuine Egyptian relics, they were actually designed by Fischer von Erlach himself. The vases are in the auricular style, which is inspired by the shape of the ear.","physicalDescription":"Plate 3.
