This book, consisting of designs by Jacques de la Joue, shows various compositions in the Rococo style. Ornament designs like this were copied by artisans, who applied the patterns and motifs to furniture, vases, textiles and so on, and were important in spreading the influence of various styles. \r\n\r\nRococo was a style in mainly architecture and decorative art, originating in France in the early 18th century. Scrolls, foliage, animal forms and other types of elaborate decoration characterised rococo, which was influenced by, but lighter than the baroque style.","physicalDescription":"Print, the 'Frozen Fountain' engraving, using rocaille and frozen water motifs.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Lajoüe, Jacques de","id":"A14498"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":"after"},{"name":{"text":"Guelard, Jean Baptiste","id":"A14499"},"association":{"text":"engraver","id":"x30813"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Engraving on paper","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Ornament prints","id":"THES49038"}],"styles":[{"text":"Rococo","id":"AAT21155"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2012FH1816","2006BA0616"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLD","id":"THES49658"},"free":"","case":"EO","shelf":"71","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"France","id":"x28849"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1735","earliest":"1730-01-01","latest":"1739-12-31"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"36.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"20.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Fontaine Glacée / La Joue Del / Guélard Sculp / avec privilege du Roi'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"From the Livre nouveau de douze morceaux de fantaisie utiles à divers usages (new book of twelve pieces of fantasy useful for different purposes).
