Additional music was added for specific dances by Sergei Taneyev (Prelude); Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov (Entry of Cleopatra); Mikhail Glinka (Veil Dance); Alexander Glazounov (Bacchanale) and Moussorgsky (Persian Dance). It was first performed by the Ballets Russes on 2 June 1909 at Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris. The first London performance took place on 7 July 1911, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The scenery and costumes for the original production were designed by Leon Bakst. The set was destroyed by fire on a train between Rio de Janiero and Sao Paulo in 1917 so in 1918, to open the season at the London Coliseum, Robert Delauney was engaged to produce set designs for a revised production. This included some old and some new costumes, including those for Cleopatra and Amoun which were designed by Sonia Delaunay. In 1918 Leonide Massine took the role of Amoun.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Sonia Delaunay","id":"A6189"},"association":{"text":"designers","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[{"text":"sewing","id":"AAT53658"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Dance","id":"THES252984"},{"text":"Costumes","id":"THES269529"},{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2014HF0901","2014HF0900","2014HF0899"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES366675"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Theatre costume","id":""}],[{"text":"dance costume","id":"x34504"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1918","earliest":"1918-01-01","latest":"1918-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Costume for Amoun in Mikhail Fokine's ballet Cleopatre, Diaghilev Ballet, redesigned by Sonia Delaunay 1918.
