Costumes to this designs were made for Serefina Astafieva and for Tamara Karsavina's initial performances in the role. The costume was worn with fine harem pants and a feathered headdress. Karsavina appears to have worn this costume for about two years before it was changed to the more familiar bodice and harem pants. Karsavina was photographed in this costume by Bert in 1911 and in the illustration by Rene Bull in A. E.
