It transferred to the Globe Theatre on 30th January 1893 and went on to run for 1,466 performances, breaking the record for longest-running play worldwide.\n\nIt was translated into German and opened at Dresden's Adolph Ernst Theatre on 7th April 1894. This souvenir fan was produced to commemorate the 200th performance at the theatre owned and run since 1888 by the actor and director Dr. Adolph Ernst (1827-1945).\n\n<i>Charley's Aunt </i>became a hit in several countries. Charles Frohman bought the American rights and opened it in various places including New York, Chicago and Boston. An article in the <i>San Jose Mercury News,</i> 12th October 1894, noted that there were versions of it playing in Florence, Stockholm, Australia and South Africa.
