The ballet by Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes was first performed at the theatre des Champs-Elysses on 24 May 1913 and later that year at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.\r\nEnrico Cecchetti's name appears on the label but he never performed the role. He recorded that on seeing the rehearsal he said that 'the whole thing has been made by four idiots. First: M. Stravinsky, who wrote the music. Second: M. Bakst [sic], who did the decor. Third: M. Nijinsky, who is the choreographist. Fourth: M. Diaghilev, who has put so much money into it.' A photograph shows Worontzow wearing the costume. The photographs show that the Old Man/Sage had a light coloured wig and headband and long beard so more elaborate decoration would be hidden. This costume has been displayed on a number of occasions with an inappropriate hat.","physicalDescription":"S.650-1980 Costume style 11 designed by Nicholas Roerich for the Wise Old Man in Nijinsky's ballet Le Sacre du printemps for the role created by M.
