They were hand-painted in watercolour and decorated with scraps of material and tinsel additions. They were popular during the first half of the 19th century and were considered an adult, rather than a child's hobby. By the 1830s it was possible to buy the tinsel, leather and feather ornaments to go with each image.","physicalDescription":"Tinsel print depicting Mr Thomas Potter Cooke as Dick Fid in <i>The Red Rover.</i> Hand coloured print with fabric, tinsel and metal additions.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"publisher","id":"x32600"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"},{"text":"paint","id":"AAT15029"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"metal","id":"AAT10900"},{"text":"tinsel","id":"AAT183933"},{"text":"cloth","id":"AAT162391"},{"text":"glue or paste","id":"x37641"}],"techniques":[{"text":"print-making","id":"AAT131119"},{"text":"hand-colouring","id":"AAT133555"},{"text":"painting","id":"x30598"},{"text":"glueing","id":"AAT53012"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"hand colour print, ink, fabirc, paint, metal and tinsel on paper.","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2014GW1754"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES356701"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"prints","id":"AAT41273"}],[{"text":"tinsel print","id":"x33804"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"early 19th century","earliest":"1800-01-01","latest":"1850-12-31"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"23.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"17.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Tinsel print depicting Mr Thomas Potter Cooke as Dick Fid in <i>The Red Rover.</i> One of a set of 19 tinsel pictures of stage and theatre scenes, early 19th c.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[{"text":"Cooke, Thomas Potter","id":"N1235"}],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":["The Red Rover"],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.106-1969"],"accessionNumberNum":"106","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":1969,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"","id":""},"number":"DT 137"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-03-04","recordCreationDate":"2009-07-01","availableToBook":true}}
