Born at Bilston, and educated at Sir Robert Peel's School, Tamworth, Morgan moved to Birmingham and became apprenticed to a lithographer.  He studied at the Birmingham School of Art and the Birmingham Society of Artists and produced illustrations for several magazines, including <u>The Graphic</u> and <u>Illustrated London News</u>.
