The pattern was screen-printed onto the fabric, which allowed the print to maintain the distinctive quality of Topolski’s design. Ascher Limited was founded by Zika and Lida Ascher from the Czech Republic in 1942. Along with Alastair Morton for Edinburgh Weavers, Ascher began the practice of working with artists in 1944 to produce innovative textile designs. This design by Topolski was repeated over the fabric, which required greater skill than producing the more straightforward scarves and panels.
