A devoted patron of the arts, she frequently supported women artists. Her life ended violently in 1792, when she was killed during the Revolution.\r\n\r\nThis Portrait Miniature was painted by Peter Adolphe Hall, who had once thrived under the patronage of such courtiers. Originally from Sweden, Hall lived in Berlin and Hamburg before settling in Paris in 1766. Just three years later, he was admitted to the French Academy and went on to serve as court painter to Louis XVI, the last King of France. He regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy until 1789, the year he fled Paris amidst the outbreak of the Revolution. Though rumored to had been present in the storming of the Bastille and initially sympathetic to revolutionary ideals, Hall eventually left for Belgium as his aristocratic clientele disappeared.\n","physicalDescription":"Portrait miniature depicting an alleged portrait of Marie Therese Louise de Savoie-Carignan, Princesse de Lamballe.
