(It was later cancelled by Southwark Council due to anxieties about the nature and content of the performance, given that Franko B's work often involves nudity and blood-letting).\r\n\r\nThe photograph on the bag is one of several taken by Franko B of homeless men sleeping rough. The bag is lettered 'Bag for Life' as a deliberate reference to the slogan used by supermarkets on their extra-strong plastic carriers. Customers purchase one of the bags and the company promises to replace it free of charge when it wears out. Franko B's bag was offered to the public for £1.50, on the same basis - that the purchaser could send in a worn-out bag and have a free replacement while stocks were available. It is a comment on our society's materialism and wastefulness, and its shameful disregard of those who are seen as un-productive - this wasted human life is shown discarded in the street like the other disposable detritus of our consumer capitalism.","physicalDescription":"Plastic carrier bag","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Franko B","id":"A14196"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"London Arts","id":"A14197"},"association":{"text":"commissioners","id":"AAT25446"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"artsadmin","id":"A14198"},"association":{"text":"commissioners","id":"AAT25446"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"South London Gallery","id":"A14199"},"association":{"text":"commissioners","id":"AAT25446"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"},{"text":"plastic","id":"AAT14570"}],"techniques":[{"text":"colour half-tone print","id":"x46080"},{"text":"line block printing","id":"x37720"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour half-tone line-block on plastic carrier bag","categories":[{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"},{"text":"Ephemera","id":"THES252985"},{"text":"Labels & packaging","id":"THES48927"},{"text":"Bags","id":"THES284620"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AY5833","2009BX0143"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"GG","shelf":"151","box":"A"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"bags (containers)","id":"AAT194509"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2002","earliest":"2002-01-01","latest":"2002-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Gill Saunders.
