On this plate, the outlines and text are line block. For the tone (the shading on the skirt), the design was photographed through a screen to create a series of dots varying in size depending on the level of dark and light required. In this case the tone in the woman’s skirt is quite simple. This image would appear black and white in a newspaper or magazine.
