The design in gold of gilt leather strip is composed of sino-islamic elements: islamic script, animals and small geometric designs; it was possibly woven in Greater Iran.","physicalDescription":"Fragment of lampas silk (<i>pannus tartaricus</i>), from a vestment at Regensburg with coloured warp stripes and a pattern weft of gilt leather strip; design in gold composed of sino-islamic elements: islamic script, animals and small geometric designs. One selvedge intact. The bands contain three different groups of motifs, 1) an Arabic inscription (Glory victory and prosperity) the repetitions are separated by circles of interlaced ornament; 2) a lion, a phoenix, a deer and a tortoise in rectangular compartments, the second and fourth being enclosed by circles; 3) small diaper pattern and quatrefoils enclosing arabesque and foliated ornament.\r\nAt the top edge, on the rear, there is sewn, with running stitches, a strip of plain woven silk, presumably the remains of a lining.\r\nFlat strip cut from single-sided gilt, probable vegetable tanned leather (or treated parchment?). The gilding was carried out with metal leaves hammered from pure, refined gold. The reverse side of the leather was lacquered.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk","id":"AAT14072"},{"text":"gold","id":"AAT11021"}],"techniques":[{"text":"patterned weave","id":"x37271"},{"text":"tanning","id":"AAT53944"},{"text":"plain weave","id":"x37295"},{"text":"hammered","id":"AAT54098"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pattern woven silk with gold gilded tanned leather","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Ecclesiastical textiles","id":"THES48962"},{"text":"Images Online","id":"THES48937"}],"styles":[{"text":"Mongol","id":"AAT21608"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006BB1782","2011EX1070","2012FH8640","2017KE1423","2018KU0261"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"A","id":"THES304275"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Woven silk and gold","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Central Asia","id":"x35011"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"},{"place":{"text":"China","id":"x29398"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1300-1350","earliest":"1300-01-01","latest":"1350-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"41.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"36","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"unmounted","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"59","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"mounted","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"53","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"mounted","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"mounted","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"mounted dimensions 59 x 53 x 4 cm","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Woven nashki inscriptions."},{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":" ","type":"","note":""},{"content":" ","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"This fragment comes from a dalmatic in the Diozesanmuseum, Regensburg, formerly part of a set of vestments in the Alte Kapelle, Regensburg, with a traditional but unsupported association with Emperor Henry VI (d. 1197).\r\nFragment has no areas of compound weave.\r\nTechnical analysis of metal thread made by Dr. Marta Jaro, Hungarian National Museum in 15/08/2004.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Lampas with arabic inscription and animals in bands, gilded leather strips, China or Central Asia, 1300-1350","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"A.F.
