Graham's shows featured acts such as Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Country Joe and The Fish, The Committee, and even Allen Ginsberg. He realised that the kids who flocked to the Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood would pay to see their favourite bands, and he conceived shows as ‘living theatre’, a total experience of light and sound where free expression and spontaneity were the order of the day. Graham managed two San Francisco-based venues, Fillmore West and Winterland, as well as New York’s Fillmore East, a showcase for new acts. This poster was produced for Graham’s second New Year Bash, an event that was soon to become a tradition. The New Year parties were all-night affairs, that featured live performances by Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead, and those who lingered until the morning were treated to breakfast served by Graham and his staff.
