She designed, made and sold clothes, targeting a young audience with disposable incomes.  The business boomed and Quant has become synonymous with a period which experienced rapid social change.  Hemlines were high and fabrics were bright and colourful.  \r\n\r\nThis piece was designed in 1956-7, early on in Quant's career.  The dress is made from wool and is fastened with metal poppers which are hidden underneath the silk satin rosettes.  The bottom of the dress is gathered and would fit tightly to the leg.
