From July to December 1866, he toured part of the Himalayan region. He wrote about his journey in The British Journal of Photography, outlining his route and in some cases describing the scenes he photographed.\r\n\r\nHe found the Baspa Valley and surrounding area particularly beautiful. Here, the viewer’s eye is drawn to sunlit snow-covered mountains in the distance. Bourne writes about the difficulty of photographing this landscape: 'In taking views of snow, unless you get broad masses of it well lit up by the sun, it does not \"come out\" in the photograph with that purity which conveys the impression of snow.’","physicalDescription":"On his journey into the Himalayas, Bourne took many photographs of the mountains. This one shows the stupendous snowy mountains in the Baspa Valley.
