It takes the form of an open letter written by Elmer Davis (1890-1958), who served from 1942-1945 as the Director of the Office of War Information. The text draws parallels between Nazi censorship via the destruction of literature and art and similar \"acts of barbarism\" committed by the Japanese in the Pacific Theatre. The aim was to keep all members of American society - including librarians and intellectuals - engaged in (and supportive of) the war effort.","physicalDescription":"Text only poster printed in red and blue ink.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"US Government Printing Office","id":"A14432"},"association":{"text":"printers","id":"x31107"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"block printing","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Politics","id":"THES48908"},{"text":"Books","id":"THES48986"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"none","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"MB2E","shelf":"LS","box":"1"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"poster","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"United States","id":"x29333"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1943","earliest":"1938-01-01","latest":"1947-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Gift of the American Friends of the V&A; Gift to the American Friends by Leslie, Judith and Gabri Schreyer and Alice Schreyer Batko","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"50.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"36.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"16-31020-1","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"\"To all who use libraries...
