Before 1914 she combined dancing for Diaghilev with her career as ballerina of the Imperial Theatre in St Petersburg. After World War I she continued to appear with the Ballets Russes and was also an independant ballerina, dancing in the UK, Europe and America. In London her career was based on seasons at the London Coliseum. \r\n\r\nOne of the solos danced by Karsavina was the Russian Dance for which her blue costume, pinafore-dress, jacket and kokoshnik was designed by Natalia Goncharovs. Karsavina was photographed by Apeda in a first version of this costume, wearing the dress over a white? long-sleeved round-necked blouse, reproduced in The Sketch, 29 April 1925, and in the second version, the jacket replacing the blouse by Edmond Harrington, ca.1929.
