He married Miss Mary Dacres, lady in charge of the Royal children, and the subject of this miniature, in 1777. Their daughter, Augusta  Caroline, married Captain Thomas Baynes, R.N., in whose family this miniature has descended. A portrait of Henry Compton by J. Hoppner is E.536-1950, and a miniature of him attributed to Richard Collins is P.11-1950.
