The stand on low bracket feet, has a shaped lower edge, and along the front a frieze with carved Renaissance decoration of scrolling form, terminating in a fish at each end and in human figures centering on a cartouche, in the middle. The front of the chest is carved with similar, but more elaborate decoration, with a roundel containing an emperor’s head supported by two winged figures. The top is plain with a moulded edge, attached with iron hinges and fastened with an iron lock. Inside a small lidded compartment at the top left hand side and below it a shelf. The design centres in a medallioned profile head, supported by slender and winged grotesques and is stopped at the sides by demi-candelabra. In the plinth the scroll design centres in human terminals supporting a blank escutcheon.
