It is one of a group of portraits of the family of Sir William Chambers, R.A., bequeathed to the National Portrait Gallery by Miss E. F. E. Pebardy.  Another portrait of the same sitter, is P.18-1958, a pastel by Francis Cotes, and a portrait of the sitter's husband by Engleheart is P.16-1958.
