Used for a quilt cover. The patterning adheres to the design fundamentals of the 1950s, which were to be expounded again in 1979 in a book published in Shanghai for students and practitioners (see FE.13-1994).  Interspersed among the birds and flowers, the  vignettes are in paler colours. A cityscape shows what may be Beijing with aspirational skyscrapers. This iconography is specific to the period of economic reform instigated by China's leader, Deng Xiaoping (1904-1997) from 1978.
