His work is visionary and experimental, with dreamlike portraits of family and friends, multiple exposures and surreal or abstract compositions. Meatyard helped redefine the genre of art photography in the 1960s. His unconventional symbolic language and shadowy pictures have been linked to the grotesque or supernatural strains of the Southern Gothic style.\r\n\nGelatin silver prints\r\nMuseum nos.
