The sitters in this composition appear remarkably natural. Mary Dillwyn was the first woman photographer in Wales. She was the sister of the pioneering photographer John Dillwyn Llewelyn, who learned about photography from William Henry Fox Talbot, his cousin-in-law and inventor of the calotype, or paper negative, process. \r\n\r\nSalted paper print\r\nMuseum no.
