Fry was an advocate of the couturier Paul Poiret's Ecole Martine, a decorating workshop consisting of a group of untrained teenage girls who produced lively colourful drawings of flowers and vegetation, used as a basis for printed textiles and wallpapers. Although Fry shared Poiret's approach to design, Omega employed fine artists working in Fauvist and Cubist styles, rather than untrained girls. Omega's main areas of activity were furniture and ceramics, however, textiles played a key role from the outset and the launch collection included printed and woven furnishing fabrics, carpets and hand-painted silk scarves. 'Maud' was one of six linens printed at the Maromme Printworks near Rouen in France, using an undivulged special technical process aimed at preserving the 'freedom and spontaneity of the original drawing'.","physicalDescription":"Furnishing fabric of printed linen.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Bell, Vanessa","id":"A1864"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Omega Workshops","id":"A7158"},"association":{"text":"designed for","id":"x41471"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Besselievre","id":"A13608"},"association":{"text":"printer","id":"x30811"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"linen (material)","id":"AAT14069"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Printed linen","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2016JK1262"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES307872"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Furnishing fabric","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Maromme","id":"x38559"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"retailed","id":"x30772"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1913","earliest":"1908-01-01","latest":"1917-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"77","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"36","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"The names given to Omega textiles were supposedly given by the German ambassador's wife, Princess Lichnowsky.
