Frederick William was born on 15 September 1830 and studied in Paris. He became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, in 1858, the year in which he was appointed Assistant Surgeon in the Bengal Service. He died in Alassio, Italy, on 5 May 1912. William Frederick became Assistant Surgeon in the Madras Service in 1857, Surgeon in 1869, Surgeon Major in 1873, and Brigade Surgeon in 1882. His sketches, mainly of architectural details, were probably made when he was posted to Jaipur as a teacher at the School of Art (1869-7?); he later became Director. He also prepared plans for the 1883 Jaipur Exhibition. He served in the Crimea (1854-1855) and was at the siege and capture of Sebastopol. He died in London on 18 January 1906. This painting is by the elder brother, Frederick William, and shows a view of the city of Dacca in Bengal as seen from the River Buriganga.","physicalDescription":"Painting, watercolour and pencil on paper, depicting a view of the river Burhi Ganga.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Frederick William Alexander De Fabeck","id":"A13589"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paint","id":"AAT15029"},{"text":"water-colour","id":"AAT15045"},{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Painted in watercolour on paper","categories":[{"text":"Paintings","id":"THES48917"},{"text":"Bonita Trust Indian Paintings Cataloguing Project","id":"THES263148"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2007BM6754","2021NB4136"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES403503"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"painting","id":"AAT33618"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Dhaka","id":"x38674"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1861","earliest":"1861-01-01","latest":"1861-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"dated 22 May (18)61"}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Mrs Laura de Fabeck","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"152","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"15/05/2013","earliest":"2013-05-15","latest":"2013-05-15"},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"239","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"15/05/2013","earliest":"2013-05-15","latest":"2013-05-15"},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"15/05/2013 dimensions measured as part of Indian Paintings Cataloguing Project 2013.
