The situations presented in this photograph and in Ph 234-1947 (D.722), Ph 251-1947 (D.709), Ph 369-1947 (D.710), Ph 287-1947 (D.713), Ph 270-1947 (D.715) and Ph 356-1947 (D.724) suggest that Lady Hawarden and her daughters were interested in exploring ideas about courtship, Clementina in breeches taking the part of the importuning male lover.
