The old attribution to Maratta is, however, more convincing than Bodmer's Carracci or the previous attribution to Guido Reni. Compare the chalk drawings of two heads at Windsor Castle (head of St Joseph and head of Holofernes, Blunt and Cooke, Windsor, nos. 278 and 288, pl. 56 and 57).
