At left, a milkmaid with yoke and pails and two labourers with scythes and a rake. [Psalm CIV. 24]\r\n\r\nLeaf 5 verso (10) At centre and occupying about two thirds of the vertical space: another design with a reclining figure in an attitude closely resembling that on the recto but holding a shepherd’s crook. Background now filled with rich boscage and foliage. Beneath a tree in left background, a shepherd with flock of sheep. Cottages and, near upper centre, a bird or bat. Surrounding this design on three sides: studies of trees, foliage and a stone wall.\r\nInscribed in ink upper left: Sometimes a wall of trees/ crude & lumpy with the light / nowhere seen / through except / at the edges / of the mass.\r\nLower centre: The contrast / is I think the / poplar but I’m not sure – \r\nLower right: The angle of the Palace / softened by a lace work of leaves.\r\n"}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"trees","id":"AAT132410"},{"text":"woman","id":"x35642"},{"text":"scythes","id":"x35899"},{"text":"pails","id":"AAT45695"},{"text":"spire","id":"AAT2360"},{"text":"birds","id":"x35043"}],"contentConcepts":[{"text":"harvest","id":"x35210"}],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.2359-1928"],"accessionNumberNum":"2359","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":1928,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-07-29","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-30","availableToBook":false}}
