Pellet's stamp and numbering is there in the bottom right but the edition of 100 is noted as being unsigned there whereas this has a signature (T-Lautrec) lower left."},{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"The following excerpt is from the South Bank Centre catalogue for the 1991-1992 Toulouse-Lautrec retrospective which took place at the Hayward Gallery, London, and the Galeries Nationale du Grand Palais Paris, p. 452:\r\n\r\n'The study [in the collection of the Musee d'Orsay] was rapidly executed in only four colours: dark blue for the preliminary outlines, grey-white for the sheets and chemise, black for the stockings and russet for the hair. It is an image executed with strikingly successful spontaneity; the elongated fingers splayed on the thigh for instance are the business of very few strokes. In this sketch the sharp featured woman seems almost subsumed into the bed.\r\nThis is not so much the case with the lithograph, for which Lautrec used a different model, perhaps Mlle. Popo again. She is posed with her hands clasped behind her head, more suggestive of sensual reverie than the sheer fatigue apparent in the oil sketch. Lautrec developed this revised pose in a drawing, to which the lithograph added only her discarded coat and hat to the left.
