Of these the Wylam branch was represented by John Blackett, High Sheriff in 1692, died 1707. The Newcastle branch had come into prominence by the activity of William Blackett who amassed great wealth as a merchant. He was mayor in 1663 and one of the MPs from 1673 until his death in 1680.
