The proportions of copper to silver do not match the alloys of the early 18th century and the maker's mark appears to have been cast.","physicalDescription":"Silver, one of a pair of sconces, the back of each is engraved with a shield of arms within a repoussé strapwork frame decorated with an imbricated pattern and is surmounted by a flaming vase supported by two amorini holding festoons, whilst below on either side is a bird's head with a festoon in its beak. The nozzles with flat circular rings are upheld by scrolls.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"John Rand","id":"A12934"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":"allegedly"}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"}],"techniques":[{"text":"repoussé","id":"AAT54023"},{"text":"engraving (incising)","id":"AAT53829"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silver, repoussé and engraved","categories":[{"text":"Lighting","id":"THES48925"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"66 (VA)","id":"THES49733"},"free":"","case":"2","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Sconce","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"allegedly"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1703-1704","earliest":"1703-05-29","latest":"1704-05-28"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"816A-1890","id":"O103611"},"association":"Pair"}],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by Joseph Bond","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"22","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"15","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"16","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Weight","value":"348.2","unit":"g","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"London hallmarks for 1703-04","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"Mark of John Rand","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"Engraved with a shield of arms for Seabright","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Information supplied (June 1903) from G.S.
