The Director, Dr. Alan Borg, chose, on the recommendation of the Metalwork Department, Chris Knight (b.1964) as an artist capable of providing a contemporary design and a standard of finish that would be suitably monumental.  Chris Knight, who was already represented in major collections, designs and produces silverware to be used. He regards functional requirements as creative guidelines, not restrictions.
