His father was probably a sculptor and he may have been related to the two painters of the same name working in the circle of Mantegna in Padua: Pietro Calzetta and Francesco Calzetta. Severo might have divided his time between Padua, Ferrara and Ravenna, where he was first recorded in 1496.","physicalDescription":"Bronze statuette of St Jerome","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Severo da Ravenna","id":"A11267"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28674"},"note":"possibly"}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"bronze","id":"AAT10957"}],"techniques":[{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Cast bronze","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"},{"text":"Religion","id":"THES48900"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2006AE6723","2018KP6700","2018KW8803"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"117","id":"THES49906"},"free":"","case":"2","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Statuette","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Ravenna","id":"x32642"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"},{"place":{"text":"Padua","id":"x29504"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1600-1620","earliest":"1595-01-01","latest":"1620-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"6","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"4.5","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"3","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"The Statue equals the Hieronymus from Brescia, but without the base and the lions","briefDescription":"Bronze statuette of St Jerome, possibly by Severo da Ravenna, Italy, about 1600-20","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Lloyd, Christopher: Two large plaquettes in Oxford from the Collection of C D E Fortnum, in Studies in the History of Art, Italian Plaquettes, Vol. 22, Washington, 1989, pp.218-220"},{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Inventory of Art Objects Acquired in the Year 1859. In: Inventory of the Objects in the Art Division of the Museum at South Kensington, Arranged According to the Dates of their Acquisition.
