A scholar normally used a variety of brushes of different sizes, so a brush pot would keep the scholar's desk tidy.\r\n\r\nA large number of brush pots are made of bamboo, but a jade one was for those of more affluent means. The carved landscape would have served the same purpose as a landscape painting.
