The Institute, for example, vocally supported the Civil Rights and Women's movements (1960s and 1970s) and opposed General Augusto Pinochet's military coup in Chile (1973).\r\nOrlando Letelier and Ronni Karpen Moffitt were murdered on Washington D.C.'s Massachussets Avenue on September 21, 1976 - allegedly by agents of the Chilean dictator. Letelier was a former Chilean ambassador and an outspoken critic of Pinochet. Karpen Moffitt was a peace activist who worked for the organisation. The two figures have since become symbols for the IPS mission to promote peace and justice.","physicalDescription":"Poster commemorating Orlando Letelier and Ronni Karpen Moffitt, with their photographs.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Institute for Policy Studies","id":"A13391"},"association":{"text":"issued by","id":"x36339"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"printing","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Propaganda","id":"THES48902"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2014HG5483"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"Y","shelf":"60","box":"E"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"poster","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"United States","id":"x29333"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1976","earliest":"1976-01-01","latest":"1976-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Gift of the American Friends of the V&A; Gift to the American Friends by Leslie, Judith and Gabri Schreyer and Alice Schreyer Batko","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"57.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"44.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Poster commemorating Orlando Letelier and Ronni Karpen Moffitt, with their photographs.
