It has been adopted almost universally by scholars when speaking of a human figure stripped of its skin and thus displaying the superficial layers of muscles. Sculpted models or statuettes in which the muscles of the body are revealed (or écorchés) first appeared in sixteenth century Europe, and in Italy primarily.","physicalDescription":"Red wax model of a right arm ecorche, an anatomical study, minus the shoulder","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"wax","id":"AAT14585"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Red wax","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2006BB2404","2017KB3828"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES395977"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Sketch model","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Florence","id":"x28848"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1550-ca. 1600","earliest":"1545-01-01","latest":"1604-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"4109-1854","id":"O102703"},"association":"Object"},{"object":{"text":"4110-1854","id":"O102706"},"association":"Object"},{"object":{"text":"4111-1854","id":"O102707"},"association":"Object"},{"object":{"text":"4113-1854","id":"O102712"},"association":"Object"}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"238","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Formerly in the Gherardini Collection of artists’ terracotta and wax models Acquired in 1854","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Red wax model of a right arm ecorche, an anatomical study, Italy (Florence), 16th century","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Inventory of Art Objects Acquired in the Year 1854. <u>In</u>: <u>Inventory of the Objects in the Art Division of the Museum at South Kensington, Arranged According to the Dates of their Acquisition.
