Z.23; pl. 36\r\n\r\nThe drawing was formerly ascribed to Giovanni da San Giovanni. The attribution to Pagani is due to Pouncey. The drawing is probably a <i>modello</i> for a lost picture described by Baldinucci in these words: ‘A Giovansimone Tornabuoni fece per Laiatico un’altra tavola del rosario con tutti I mistieri; e fu concetto dello stesso Tornabuoni ch’egli figurasse la Vergine in un giardino di rose, con tre alberi; nel primo, che fu una palma, rappressento i misteri gaudiosi; nel seconde, che fu uno spino, i dolorosa; nel terzo, che fu un rosaio… fece vedere i misteri gloriosi, e nella medesima tavola rappresento angeli e piu figure di santi. Fra questi era un s. Bastiano…’ (<i>Notizie dei professori del disegno</i>, edited by F. Ranalli, Florence, 3, 1846, p. 45). Dr Thiem suggests a date about 1595. She publishes (no. Z.20; pl. 37) a drawing in the Louvre which is a study for another picture of the Virgin giving a rosary to St Dominic, painted about the same time for Francesco Marenozzi. In this drawing also the Virgin is surrounded with 15 roudnels designed to contain scenes from her life. \r\n"}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"Unique","id":"THES48864"},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["8942"],"accessionNumberNum":"8942","accessionNumberPrefix":"","accessionYear":null,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-15","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-30","availableToBook":false}}
