The series of photographs entitled ‘Sustenance’ is the result of her observation of birds feeding in her garden over a sustained period of time. Using artificial lighting, magnification and the selective use of focus, Madahar creates an exaggerated impression of reality, freezing the birds’ nervous animation within the network of branches. The series explores Madahar’s interest in the concept of ‘home’: familiarity and strangeness, belonging and migration, routine and repetition.","physicalDescription":"Colour photograph of birds feeding in the foliage of a tree.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Madahar, Neeta","id":"A13327"},"association":{"text":"photographer","id":"AAT25687"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"photographic paper","id":"AAT14190"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Inkjet","id":"x39339"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Iris ink-jet print","categories":[{"text":"Photographs","id":"THES48910"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2007BM3148"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"B","id":"THES304724"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"photograph","id":"AAT46300"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Massachusetts","id":"x28996"},"association":{"text":"photographed","id":"x30151"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2003","earliest":"2003-01-01","latest":"2003-12-31"},"association":{"text":"photographed","id":"x30151"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased through the Cecil Beaton Royalties Fund","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"855","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"1108","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Photograph by Neeta Madahar, 'Sustenance 114', 2003, iris inkjet print","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"birds","id":"x35043"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Sustenance is the result of Madahar's observations of birds feeding in her garden over a sustained period of time.
